There’s something profoundly satisfying about diving into a passion project and watching it grow into a small business. For me, that journey began with woodworking prior to the pandemic — a hobby that has transformed into a cherished venture.
What started as a personal exploration into "how to make a charcuterie board for my wife" quickly turned into a rewarding endeavor. Each piece I create, from rustic wooden signs with charming messages to intricate home decor accents, is a reflection of my love for the craft. The process itself is incredibly gratifying: sourcing reclaimed and rough cut wood so it can be milled to match a project's needs, designing, painting/staining, and finally seeing the finished product come to life. It’s a creative outlet that continually inspires and excites me.
The beauty of this journey lies in the connection between creativity and craftsmanship. There’s a unique joy in making something by hand, knowing that each piece carries a touch of my own artistic vision. It’s about more than just producing items; it’s about creating something that resonates with others and brings a bit of warmth and personality into their homes.
Building this small business has also allowed me to meet fellow woodworkers and customers who share a passion for handcrafted goods. Their appreciation and feedback have been incredibly helpful (even when the items don't turn out quite right).
If you’ve ever thought about turning a creative passion into a small business, I encourage you to take the leap. It’s an incredible journey filled with discovery, learning, and, most importantly, joy. Crafting something with your own hands and sharing it with others is a truly special experience that makes every effort worthwhile.
